How the New Texas Cottage Food Law Helps Local Bakers (and You!)

September 1 marked a big day for Texas bakers and for anyone who loves fresh, homemade treats. The Texas Cottage Food Law just got a major update, and while the legal language can sound a little dry, the short version is this: you get more delicious options.

More Menu Variety

Before, we couldn’t sell anything that needed refrigeration. That meant no cheesecakes, cream pies, or custards. Now? We can finally offer those chilled and creamy desserts you’ve been craving.

Easier to Find Our Products

Under the old rules, we could only sell directly to you. Now, for non-refrigerated items, we can work with local coffee shops, markets, and other businesses. Imagine grabbing your morning coffee and our coffee cakes at the same stop.

More Availability

The sales cap for home bakers went from $50,000 to $150,000 a year, which means we can take more orders without hitting our limit. Translation: fewer “sorry, we’re booked” messages during busy seasons.

Privacy = Better Service

We can now register with the state to use an ID instead of our home address on labels. This makes it easier to handle deliveries and wholesale orders without blasting our home location all over the internet.

Bottom line: This law change is a win for everyone who loves local food. You’ll see a wider selection, more pickup points, and new treats rolling out as we fine-tune recipes.
